|To his Honor Sir F.B.T. Carter
KCMG Chief Justice of
the Supreme Court of
the Honorables John Hayward
and R.J. Pinsent DCL
Assisitant Justices thereof
|The petition of Ellen Condon of St John's, Widow.|
|That on the sixth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty one her late Husband the late Kyran Condon, a Mariner, was drowned whilst engaged as one of the crew of the "Brunette" on a voyage from the Port of St. John's Newfoundland to Oporto in Portugal, Europe.
That he left him surviving your petitioner and nine children all under age.
That the said late Kyran Condon died without having made a will.
That he was possessed of property within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court of the probate value of about Three Hundred Dollars and that neither Letters of Administration nor Probate to said Estate have been hitherto granted.
Petitioner therefore prays for a grant of Letters of Administration to the Estate of her said late Husband to her and for which as in duty bound.
1/It is likely all of Kyran's property at St. John's was owned jointly with Ellen. However in November of 1883 a deed for property belonging to Kyran Condon was executed in which Ellen sold the property, on the north side of Caplin Bay, to James, Thomas and Patrick Clancy.
2/ The abbreviation KCMG means Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George.
3/ The abbreviation DCL means Doctor of Civil Law.
