Ewen Stabb Deputy Sheriff

Elizabeth Finn

To all to whom these presents shall come I Ewen Stabb of Ferryland Esquire Deputy Sheriff of the Southern District of Newfoundland send greeting

           Whereas by virtue of His Majestys Writ of Fieri facias unto me directed commanding me of the goods and Chattles of John OBrien to make a certain debt and costs which Elizabeth Finn in the Southern District Court at Ferryland recovered against him bearing date the fourth day of November in the first year of the Reign of His Majesty King William the fourth; as by the said Writ of Fieri facias relation being thereto had will more fully and at large appear.

Now know all men by these presents that I the said Deputy Sheriff for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen Pounds Ten shillings currency of this Island to me in hand paid by Elizabeth Finn of Cape Broyle at and before the sealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the said Elizabeth Finn all and singular the goods and Chattles following by me taken in execution by virtue of the said Writ of Fieri Facias, that is to say, said John OBriens right, title, and interest to and in a certain Plantation situated at the head of Caplin Bay commonly called Bawn More and lately in the occupancy [of] the said John OBrien, which I the said Deputy Sheriff at the sealing and deliverance hereof, have delivered to the said Elizabeth Finn to have and to hold the same unto the said Elizabeth Finn her executors administrators and assigns and as her and the own property to her and their own use and benefit forever.

In witness whereof I the said Deputy Sheriff have hereunto set my Hand and Seal of Office at Ferryland in the Southern District of Newfoundland the ninth day of November in the First year of the reign of His Majesty William the fourth and in the year of our Lord 1830.

Transcriber's Note:
1/ A writ of fieri facias commands a sheriff to take and sell enough property, from the person who lost the lawsuit, to pay the debt owed by the judgement.
