Family History: |
The few surviving records with the Madden surname indicate Maddens families lived at Ferryland and Caplin Bay in the early nineteenth century. However, Michael Madden's name appeared only in the Caplin Bay Voter's List for 1840 and 1841, and after his name was the letter D, the meaning of which is unclear (dead, deceased, departed, disqualified??). Although no one with that surname appeared in the Ferryland Voter's Lists, an Ann Madden (of Caplin Bay or Ferryland?) was a witness at a marriage in 1849, and she was likely the same female who eventually married at St. John's in 1855. One of the witnesses for that marriage was Michael Madden. Other than one entry in a marriage record in 1863, the surname did not resurface in Ferryland District in any later documents. |
