Family History: The few surviving records with the Madden surname mentioned indicate that there was a Madden family in the Ferryland/Caplin Bay area. However, Michael is only recorded at Caplin Bay for 1840 and 1841, and after his name is written the letter D, the meaning of which is unclear (dead, deceased, departed, disqualified??). Although there is no one with that surname in the Ferryland Voter's Lists, an Ann Madden (of Caplin Bay or Ferryland?) is a witness at a marriage in 1849 and it appears that she eventually married in 1855. One of the witnesses at her marriage is a Michael Madden. Other than one entry in a marriage record in 1863, the surname did not resurface in Ferryland District in any later records.
