Family History: |
Nothing is known of the Sheehan family or how long they had been at Caplin Bay prior to 1840, although the court record entry for 1829 would seem to indicate the family was there prior to that time. There also appears to be some confusion with the surname, which is spelled in several different ways. The last entry for the surname at Caplin Bay is in the Voter's List of 1859 which was updated with a note indicating that Patrick was dead. This means he probably died in the early 1860s. The Sheehan surname is also found at Cappahayden, which is about 30 kilometres south of Calvert. Their ancestor supposedly was a John Sheehan, a native of Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, but there is no indication that the Caplin Bay Sheehans were related to this family. It is not known if there were any females in this family who could have married into other Caplin Bay families. |
