  Jeremiah Conway settled in Caplin Bay about 1891 when he married Elizabeth Gatherall. I have not found any family or community lore which relates why a man from Heart's Content, Conception Bay ended up in Caplin Bay, but it is likely in someway related to the comings and goings of young men aboard schooners involved in the seasonal cod fishery. Although married twice, Jerry had no sons, and it appears his wife and daughters eventually left Calvert. His wife was still living at Calvert in 1928, but I could find no trace of her by 1935. However, my research indicates that his wife, Kate, died at St. John's in 1939 and one of his daughters married Nicholas Dunne of Renews. I was unable to find any information on his other two daughters.
