  Immigration: The 1900 US Census states that the family moved to the US in 1887. Census: In the 1900 US Census, William was living on West Congress St. in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was widowed and 55 years of age. His children living with him were Richard (29), William (26), Frances (23), Mary (21), Annie (18) and John (13)and a male William Saunders identified as a cousin? of William Grant (Sr.) However, this individual could not matched to any Newfoundland records but it appears likely he was a relative of William's late wife, Mary Ellen Saunders.
