• Notes

  Residence: Francis Tree who later declared himself to be an American Loyalist stayed in Boston after the outbreak of the American War of Independence. However, before the war ended, he moved with his family to Ferryland, Newfoundland, the home of his wife's family. It is not clear which year Francis Tree and his family left Boston and resettled at Ferryland, but his wife indicated that they had left while the war was still ongoing. From the 1780s onward, the Ferryland Court Records mention Francis and his two sons, Francis Jr. and Philip. Most of these references are in relation to various court cases, business operations, civil activities, and to Crown appointments that they received.
