Mary Kennedy |
Born |
Abt 1845 |
Ferryland, Newfoundland [1] |
- Although some family lore suggests that Mary Kennedy was from St. John's, her Vital Statistics death record says she was born at Ferryland. There is evidence that there was a John Kennedy at Ferryland in the 1840s. He is listed in the voter's list there from 1849 to 1859. If Mary's Vital Statistic record is correct, it was likely that John Kennedy was her father. Of note is the fact that Thomas and Mary named their first son, John. Sadly, he died young, as did a later son that they also baptized as John. It appears from these baptisms that the name John had special significance for this couple.
In September 1857, in Holy Apostles Parish at Fermeuse, a Mary Kenedy (sic) was the godmother of Thomas Meany, likely the first son of James Meany and Esther Murphy. Thomas and Esther were married at St. John's Newfoundland, in 1856. In the 1859 voter's list for Ferryland, James Meaney was listed, for the first time, living on The Downs.

Bef 1870 [1] |
- No marriage record was found for Mary Kennedy and Thomas Meaney. Unfortunately, the surviving Holy Trinity Parish marriage records have survived only from November 1, 1870, onward. While with most couples, children were born within the first year after marriage, Thomas and Mary's first son, John, was born in June of 1872. It is hard to determine if maybe they were married elsewhere, possibly in 1871.
