| Name |
Patrick Evoy |
Born |
Abt 1787 |
Ferryland, Newfoundland [1] |
- Patrick was the eldest son of Michael Evoy and his wife Elenor (Ellen, Nelly in certain documents) who were proprietors of a public house in Ferryland throughout the 1790s. His father, Michael, died in 1798 and about a year later, his mother married James Walsh. Elenor and James Walsh continued to run the pub at Ferryland for a period of time, and then moved to Caplin Bay about 1805. It appears that when they moved to Caplin Bay, some, or all, of Elenor's children, from her first marriage, moved with them.

Caplin Bay, Newfoundland [2] |
- Patrick's name appears in all the surviving voter's lists for Caplin Bay from 1840 to 1859. A notation, after Patrick Evoy's name in the 1859 voter's list, says "dead". It is not known when this entry was made; but it was likely an update for the next election, which was in May 1861.

12 Nov 1829 |
St. John's RC (Basilica) Parish, St. John's, Newfoundland [4] |
- Groom's name was initially recorded as John, but later Pat was written just above John in the marriage record. Catherine's surname was recorded as "Poor", the then common pronunciation of the surname "Power". The witnesses were: Richard Renigan (sic) and James Walsh.
Based on my research, the groom appears to be Patrick Evoy (b. Ferryland, circa 1787, died Caplin Bay, circa 1861). The witnesses were likely James Walsh, Patrick's (half) brother and Richard Reddigan, who was married to Patrick's youngest sister, Catherine Evoy.
