  Patrick Clancy (aka Clancey) was the ancestor of the Clancy family at Calvert (Caplin Bay. Obviously Irish in origin, he may have been born in Ireland, although no record to verify that speculation has been found. There were Clancys at Fermeuse in the late 1700s and on into the early 1800s, however the name Patrick Clancy does not appear as part of that family in the list of inhabitants recorded there for 1799/1800. Regardless of his origin, Patrick Clancy seems to have been well established at Caplin Bay by the second decade of the nineteenth century. In 1817, he sold his plantation, boats, and other property to the merchant firm of Benjamin and William Sweetland & Co. He obviously stayed in the area, since in 1830, he is noted as renting, what appears to be part of this same property, from Benjamin Sweetland. According to the early voters lists, Patrick lived on the South Side of Caplin Bay in the area known as Road Side. His approximate date of death is based on the fact that he is listed in the Voters List from 1840 until 1855 (inclusive), however, he is not listed as a voter in 1859.
