    Notes
    • It appears that Frank Meaney, John Joseph Swain and John Williams (from Ferryland?) set out from Newfoundland to find employment in British Columbia, probably in 1889. In the 1891 Canadian Census, these three Newfoundlanders are shown living together in the James Bay Ward of Victoria City. Frank and John Swain gave their occupation as carpenters, however, John William's occupation was not specifed. None of them were employed at the time the census was taken. According to the census, Frank was considered as the head of the household and all three are shown as being single. . Frank Meaney obviously returned to Newfoundland within a few years since he married again and settled in St. John's in the early 1890s. He eventually returned to Caplin Bay and died there in 1911. In the late 1920s, John Swain also returned home and married the widow of Frank Meaney.
