  	On the US death certificate of her daughter Ellen Shallow, she was identified as Mary [sic] Smith but on the US death certificate of her daughter Mary Anne Shallow, she was just identified as Margaret. Newfoundland Vital Statistics also indicates that her name was Margaret.

  Although some versions of family lore suggest that Margaret may have been born in Scotland, her Vital Statistics death record states that she was born in Ireland. This fact is also borne out by a St. John's newspaper obit: Evening Telegram - Jun 17, 1891 - Died at Caplin Bay on the 13, Margaret, relict of late Edward Keough, native of New Ross, Ireland, age 86 years, 66 spent here.
