| Notes |
- Catherine Evoy's Letters of Administration petition identifies Ellen as the daughter of Patrick Evoy. Although there are some suggestions that Ellen may have had several brothers, it appears that John Evoy was her only brother. In 1864, the Evoy property at Caplin Bay was still in the possession of Patrick's wife, Catherine, but it appears it was later passed on to Ellen (Evoy) and her husband, Robert Swain Jr.
Robert and Ellen Swain's only son, John, moved away and died in 1894. Their daughters, Mary (Polly Ledwell), Elizabeth (Liz Miskill) and Catherine (Kate Walsh) eventually inherited this property. Elizabeth and Catherine married and lived in St. John's and sold their share of the property to the Sullivans. The share, belonging to Mary, who married Sebastian Ledwell from Little Placentia, remained within the Ledwell family.

- Groom's name was initially recorded as John, but later Pat was written just above John in the marriage record. Catherine's surname was recorded as "Poor", the then common pronunciation of the surname "Power". The witnesses were: Richard Renigan (sic) and James Walsh.
Based on my research, the groom appears to be Patrick Evoy (b. Ferryland, circa 1787, died Caplin Bay, circa 1861). The witnesses were likely James Walsh, Patrick's (half) brother and Richard Reddigan, who was married to Patrick's youngest sister, Catherine Evoy.

- There may have been other children in this marriage, but only four have been identified so far. It is curious that the baptisms for two of their four children, (Mary and John), were recorded in Holy Apostles RC Parish, but no records were found for the other two,(Catherine and Elizabeth), in the parish baptism records in the Ferryland area. However in the 1921 Newfoundland Census, both Catherine and Elizabeth indicated that they were born at Caplin Bay in the 1870s.
