In return, Richard promised to look after James and his wife Ellen Walsh (formerly widow Evoy) for the rest of their lives.

Mary Readigan, b. Abt 1800, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland , d. Abt 1835, Aquaforte, Newfoundland (Age ~ 35 years) |
Married |
11 Nov 1825 |
Holy Trinity RC Parish, Ferryland, Newfoundland [1] |
- The surviving record below gives the first clear indication of where the "Readigan" family had settled in Ferryland District, and it also identifies their county of origin in Ireland. The marriage record for Mary and John was recorded on a printed form found in a Misc. Book of Marriages located in The Rooms Archives at St. John's. It reads as follows:
"Marriage solemnized at 'Aquafort' in the Island of Newfoundland. This is to Certify That 'John Mullaly of Co. Kilkenny Ireland' and 'Mary Readigan of said County' were Married at 'Ferryland' this '11 of November' in the Year of our Lord 182'5'. By me, 'Timothy Browne, Clergyman in Holy Orders'.
This marriage was solemnized between us, 'John--X--Mullaly' Mary--X--Readigan'
In the presence of us, 'John Condon' - 'Mary--X--Walsh' - Witnesses present at the said Marriage".
Although only one son's name has been found for this couple, it appears from other references that John and Mary had at least two sons (and two daughters). However, no records have been found that give any clear details of them later in life, except for the marriage and death records of their son, Michael, and a death reference to their eldest daughter, Catherine.
