- The Massachusetts State Census of 1855 shows that John Saunders (a mariner) and his wife, Catherine, were recorded as being 30 years old and they were recorded as being born in Newfoundland. Their eldest child was listed as Jane, a female - age 11, however, other documents identify their eldest child as James, not Jane. Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States [5] |
- The Massachusetts State Census for 1865 shows John Saunders,(49), a sailor and his wife Catherine, (39) were born in Newfoundland.
