| Notes |
- St. John's - Evening Telegram - Dec 26, 1888. Sullivan, Joseph, native of Wexford, died 20th at Caplin Bay aged 76, here 59 yrs.
This obituary indicates that Joseph came to Newfoundland about 1829, but it is not clear where he lived prior to his marriage in 1838. Family folklore suggests that Joseph Sullivan's hometown was the inland port town of New Ross, on the Barrow River, in Co. Wexford.
Although the Sullivans of nearby Ferryland also originated in Co. Wexford, Ireland, no conclusive evidence has been found that indicates any kinship with Joseph.
