My maternal great grandparents were Jane Elizabeth Johnston (b. Ferryland) who married Hugh Vavasour (cooper, St. John's). They had nine children including Eliza (my grandmother) who married Harold Pitcher. The other children were Ernest, Charlie, Bert, Sam, Ralph, Amelia (who moved to Philadelphia) and Lucy. The Vavasours of Newfoundland, as perhaps you know, were originally French Huguenots who fled so family legend has it to England or Ireland and then emigrated to Newfoundland.
