  Notes	This family surname is spelled as Vavasour/Vavasor/Vavasseur and Vavaseur in various records and documents. For the puprpose of this family history I have used the spelling - Vavasour - which was the spelling predominately used for this family. There does not seem to be any early records that indicate when the Vavasours arrived in Newfoundland, and where their home was before they arrived in St. John's. In the 1794 Census of St. John's, there is one name that is likely a variant of the Vavasour surname. A Thomas Babister, single, shoreman, was recorded as living in Third Division, the location of which is given as being from Nobles Cove to Engine House. Based on the Anglican baptism records, it appears that James arrived about 1813. However, it is possible that baptisms for earlier children were lost, recorded in another Newfoundland location, or in the records of another affiliated protestant church (Kevin Reddigan). The Newfoundlander 1827-1830 - Thursday, September 2, 1830 Died on Monday morning last, aged 68 years, MR. JAMES VAVASOR, Cooper, an old and respectable inhabitant of this town. The friends of the deceased are respectfully solicited to attend his funeral this day (Thursday), at half-past three o'clock. [I have interpreted "Monday morning last" to mean August 30, 1830 (Kevin Reddigan)].
