Births, Deaths and Marriages in Newfoundland Newspapers 1810-1890 On the 17 July 1886, St. John's newspapers carried a death notice for "Maggie Aspenell", daughter of John and Margaret Aspenell. Her age is given as 3 yrs. and 2 months. No location is given, which generally indicates that the event occurred at St. John's. This is the only instance of a surname spelled Aspenell that I could find in any Newfoundland records, so it seems likely that it was an incorrect spelling of the surname Aspell. The age and parent's names strongly support the deduction that this was Margaret Anne Aspell who was born in June of 1883.
