Bef 1870 |
Stone Island, Caplin Bay, Newfoundland [1] |
- Thomas' Vital Statistics death record states his age was 21. However, no entry can be found of his birth in the Ferryland Baptism records which start in Oct 1870, so this age appears to be incorrect. A Thomas Swain was a godfather at baptisms as early as 1883 and 1884. There is also a Thomas Swaine, fisherman, who is listed at Caplin Bay in McAlpine's 1894-97 Directory. This would suggest that he was head of a household, which is very unlikely if he was only in his teens.
