- Although James Mackey's name did not appear in the 1840 Voter's Lists for Ferryland District, his name did appear there, but only in 1841. He was listed as living at Caplin Bay in the area known as Wren's Nest. Other references strongly suggest that after 1841 James went to live with his daughter, Mary Mullally, at Ferryland, where he eventually died in September 1846.

11 Sep 1846 |
Ferryland, Newfoundland [2] |
- On September 11, 1846, Robert Carter noted in his journal that "James Mackey, an old inhabitant of Caplin Bay, died today at John Mollally's (sic)."
As gleaned from other documents. John Mullally's second wife was Mary Mackey, so it is likely James was her father. It appears that after 1841, James had gone to live with Mary and her family at Ferryland.
