Ireland? England? [1] |
- Lack of surviving church records have made it very difficult to determine settler's ethnicity and religious affiliation. In various writings about the settlement of Brigus South, references have been made to Michael Hayes as being of English (or Irish) birth. The surname was very prevalent in Co. Wexford, one of four Irish counties that were primary sources of Irish migration/immigration to Newfoundland. For example, there was an earlier record for Philip Hayes from Kilmalock Parish, Co. Wexford, Ireland.
