Registry of Deeds - Southern District Vol. 1; Fol. 445-446

This deed indicates that on May 23, 1836, John "Maloly" sold his property at "Aquafort" to Anna Winsor for £11-10-0. The 1840 Voter's List verifies that John and was residing at Ferryland so the actual date of their move was likely sometime before this 1836 sale occurred.

    Voter:
John Mullolly/Mollolly is shown living at Ferryland in the area known as The Alley. Based on these early Ferryland Voter's Lists, it appears that John and Mary (his second wife) moved to St. John's between 1852 and 1855.

    Deed:
On April 20, 1844, John Mullaly signed as a witness to a deed recorded in the Registry of Deeds - Southern District - Volume 3, Folio 274. In this deed, James Walsh Sr. made a "Deed of Gift" giving all his property at Caplin Bay to Richard Reddigan "the younger". In return, Richard promised to look after James and his wife Ellen Walsh (formerly widow Evoy) for the rest of their lives.

Although no kinship specifics are clearly explained, other research indicates that Richard Reddigan (Jr.) was the Walshes' grandson, the son of Richard Reddigan (Sr.) and Catherine Evoy (youngest daughter of Ellen).

    Residence:
On October 21, 1846, Martin Conway was charged in court with beating two minor sons of John Mullally of Ferryland.

    Residence:
On Sept. 5, 1865, John and Mary, living in St. John's, sold their house and property at Ferryland to William Reid. (Registry of Deeds - Southern District - Volume 5 - Folio 73).

John married Mary Readigan 11 Nov 1825, Holy Trinity RC Parish, Ferryland, Newfoundland. Mary (daughter of Martin Reddigan and Johanna Cain) was born Abt 1800, Co. If this son was from John Mullally's first marriage, he was likely born at Aquaforte, otherwise he was born at Ferryland.

    Buried:
Robert Carter did not indicate if the boy's body was recovered for burial.

    Died:
Robert Carter's noted that "Richard Mackey upset a punt at Cold East Point, and a boy (Mullally) was lost."

    Notes:

    Birth:
The age given in his 1868 marriage record was 34 yrs.

    Died:
Michael's mother was recorded as Mary Mackey however, I suspect that she was actually his stepmother. The local Newfoundland newspapers incorrectly recorded Mchael's place of death as Gloucester, England instead of Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts, USA.

Michael married Elizabeth Kehoe 23 Nov 1868, Little Bras D'Or, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. Elizabeth was born Aug 1842, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada; died 29 Oct 1918, Nova Scotia, Canada; was buried 31 Oct 1918, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    Buried:
Robert Carter did not indicate if the boy's body was recovered for burial.

    Died:
Magistrate Robert Carter noted that "Richard Mackey upset a punt at Cold East Point (Ferryland) and a boy - Mullally- was lost." I suspect that Richard Mackey was in all likelihood, Mary (Mackey) Mullally's brother. However, it is possible that the "boy" was a son of Mary Reddigan, John Mullally's first wife??
