    George Grant is the only person of that surname recorded as receiving a barrel of flour as part of relief from the government after the fishing boats and premises was severally damaged by the Great Gale of September 1846.

    George Grant is shown as being awarded a small contact worth £2 to carry out road work at Cape Broyle. In the same time-frame George and Richard Grant are shown to have provided labour of 6 days and 12 days respectively in lieu of provisions that had been provided to them by the government. The work they provided was in the rebuilding of LaManche Bridge.

He lived alone and was suffering from a cancerous growth in the abdomen. Dr. Freebairn attended him some days previously, and it was intended to send him to hospital here next week.     From the transcripts of these cases we learn that Martin Grant was afflicted by a mental disability and was almost blind. For reasons not clearly stated, he was often harassed by a number of young men in the settlement. The two men directly charged by Constable Thomas Green were found guilty while another three were found not guilty. Although the case against them wasn't proved, they were cautioned against any re-occurrences before they were discharged.
