    Name:
    A thorough search of surviving records failed to uncover any references to the name, origin, and religious affiliation of Robert Saunders' wife.

    We know that Robert's religious affiliation was Church of England, however, I suspect (but cannot prove) that his wife was Roman Catholic. My research of their children's spouses indicate that they were all Roman Catholic, hence none of Robert's grandchildren appear in the Church of England baptism, marriage or burial records at Ferryland or elsewhere.

    No other references to a Donald Saunders were found, so in all likelihood this reference is a court error and refers to Daniel Saunders, son of Robert. (Kevin Reddigan).

    Robert Carter's Journal - Friday 21 October, 1836.
    Strong gale S.S.W., with hard rain and heavy sea. It is reported Daniel Sanders and his boys are missing from Aquaforte, supposed to have been upset in a small fishing boat two nights ago off Aquaforte.

    The 'boys' mentioned were likely Daniel's fishing crew, but no names are known at this point in time. [It is unknown if any of the bodies were later recovered from this mishap.]

    John Condon (aged 38) and Peter Robert Winsor (aged 22) were both drowned on Sept. 19, 1867. It would appear that their bodies were not recovered. Although, Peter was Anglican, the Condon family chose to commemorate both of them on the same headstone as John's father, in the Roman Catholic Cemetery at Aquaforte.
