Generation: 1

  1. 1.  James Mackey was born Abt 1770, Ireland?; died 11 Sep 1846, Ferryland, Newfoundland; was buried Abt 13 Sep 1846, Non-denominational Cemetery, Ferryland, Ferryland District, Newfoundland, Canada.

    Other Events:

    • Voter: 1841, Caplin Bay, Newfoundland

    Notes:

    Voter:
Although James Mackey's name did not appear in the 1840 Voter's Lists for Ferryland District, his name did appear there, but only in 1841. He was listed as living at Caplin Bay in the area known as Wren's Nest. Other references strongly suggest that after 1841 James went to live with his daughter, Mary Mullally, at Ferryland, where he eventually died in September 1846.

    Died:
On September 11, 1846, Robert Carter noted in his journal that "James Mackey, an old inhabitant of Caplin Bay, died today at John Mollally's (sic)."

As gleaned from other documents. John Mullally's second wife was Mary Mackey, so it is likely James was her father. It appears that after 1841, James had gone to live with Mary and her family at Ferryland.

    Notes:

    Misc:
Richard Mackey was mentioned in relation to a boating accident that occurred near Cold East Point in Ferryland. A boy named Mullally was drowned in that accident.

    Court Action:
On this date, Richard Mackay (sic), who was living at Caplin Bay and employed as a servant by Matthew Morry, Esquire J.P., appeared in court at Ferryland as the defendant in an assault case. There are not enough details to determine for sure that this was the same Richard Mackey mentioned in the 1842 boating accident.

Richard Mackey's name never appeared in any Voter's Lists in Ferryland District.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Son-three Mullally Descendancy chart to this point (2.Mary2, 1.James1) was born Aft 1835, Ferryland, Newfoundland; died 27 Jun 1842, Ferryland, Newfoundland.

    Notes:

    Buried:
Robert Carter did not indicate if the boy's body was recovered for burial.

    Died:
Magistrate Robert Carter noted that "Richard Mackey upset a punt at Cold East Point (Ferryland) and a boy - Mullally- was lost." I suspect that Richard Mackey was in all likelihood, Mary (Mackey) Mullally's brother. However, it is possible that the "boy" was a son of Mary Reddigan, John Mullally's first wife??
