    Notes:

    Birth:
It appears that this William Meaney was from this family group. His older brother? Thomas Meaney, had a son named William, who was born at Ferryland and died there in the late 1800s.

    Court Action:
Robert Carter wrote his "Journals" that the "Ferryland Court issued warrants this day (Sept. 6 1833) for (Philip J.) Bryan, (William) Meaney & (Martin) Curran - for breach of the peace & assault & battery". It appears from later references that "Richard Delahunty and others" had been assaulted by this trio.

Carter later relates "Bryan not yet taken - Curran yet in jail - Wm. Meaney in a weak state - those three appear to have suffered most from the row of Thursday night. It appears to me to have been of a more serious nature than was at first expected". Later court records indicate that Curran and Meaney were acquitted while Bryan was convicted.

After this brush with the court system, there is no further mention of this William Meaney. Although his uncle, Francis, appears in the Voter Lists until 1842, there were no Meaney Voters listed at Ferryland until 1859 when his first cousin?, James, was eligible to vote.
